ARTIST BIO & STATEMENT
The emirate Dubai is so rich with different cultures and nationalities I felt it would be almost impossible to explain how exactly all these things affect my daily routine. My piece does not answer the question of how different cultures affect my daily routine but rather it seeks to inform the viewer of a single day's interactions with the many different nationalities(and therefore cultures or even sub-cultures) that I encounter.
Ryan Atkinson was born in South Africa in 1986, is a Libra and enjoys long walks on the beach, rainbows and frilly Victorian shirts that make him both look and feel like a pirate.
After studying Graphic design at The Open Window, he started work in the dog-eat-dog world of motion design, before jumping ship to try his hand in the dog-eat-dog world of print and other visual communications.
His attention to typographical detail pays homage to the Joseph Muller-Brockman's school of Grid System design. With solid based typographic grid systems, twisted and tweaked, his work resides in a space between modern & post-modern, where his attention to detail is as evident as his square jaw and his rippling pectoral muscles. Ryan Atkinson’s diverse portfolio of work includes Sony Ericsson, Coca cola, Nescafe, Nivea, HP, Loreal, MTV and that one time he totally pimped out his mom’s Garden Club invites. Word.
