ARTIST BIO & STATEMENT
Hong Kong was a British colony for 150 years before it was handover to China in 1997. It led Hong Kong to an international city with its unique local culture that combined the traditional Chinese and western cultures. At the same time, Hong Kong has provided a favorable trading environment to the international companies and brands. Therefore, we can find various imported goods as well as some domestic products in Hong Kong.
To create the infographic that shows how foreign cultures become a part of my own daily routine, I have tried to record the data of the personal stuff at my home and find out the percentage of their countries of origin. I have randomly picked 30 items around me. They are mainly from different places around the world, while only a few of them are local products. It truly reflects the prosperous and advantageous economy under Hong Kong's free-trade policy.
Born in Hong Kong, Ken Lo graduated from HKU SPACE Community College with Distinction in Higher Diploma in Visual Communication. He won the Champion of “Design Student of the Year” awarded by Hong Kong Designers Association in 2005.
Specialized in branding, identities, packaging, print, publications & environmental graphic design, Ken started up his own design studio, BLOW in May 2010. At the same time, he launched the tote bag brand, luckipocki, aiming to spread out positive messages and share good luck with everyone around the world.
In 2011, Ken was awarded by the Perspective Magazine as the “40 under 40”, 40 design talents in Asia under 40 years old; and he was selected by the Time Out Magazine in 2012 as “The Design Hot 25”, the 25 city’s top talents you need to know. Besides, he has won the Victoria Harbour Icon Design Competition, as well as 20 awards in the 2012 HKDA Global Design Awards.
